Great blog, gives an overall idea of social recruiting, especially for a person who has been doing an in-house recruiting so far but hopes (and prepares) to become a professional recruiter/head-hunter. Inspirational as well. I agree that on-line media should only be additional medium and not something used instead of phone conversation and face to face meeting above all which give you an important interpersonal aspect, irreplaceable! A professional recruiter has to be aware that in social media there are a lot of users who know how to create a catching personal brand, and only by getting to know them in person a recruiter can find if it really stands for what it says (is there real knowledge, skills and experience behind it).

Some great comment here. I agree, social networking and the use of social media sites for recruiting is a fantastic and importantly free tool in a recruiters armoury. However, recruiters still need the other skills of communication, sales, perseverance, not to mention the intelligent and intuitive application of their knowledge and use of data.

The other potential problem for bigger recruitment companies could arise from management being unwilling to relinquish control of published output from their employees. Happily I'm a small independent and don't have this problem. :-)

Glen,

Have to say you are spot on with this post. I believe that it all comes down to what you make of - any tool or capability that is available to you. Any leg up to finding and filling the right person for the right job.

Thanks

Don't forget Glen, branding yourself on these networks and proving contact information on yourself can become the blackhole of call ins... from Mascots to tennis instructors everything but what you recruiting for starts to call, spam email you!

Great Post Glen. Social Media and Social Networks do work for those who actually use it ( well ). Do you think if companies are getting into it only because they don't want to be left alone, or is it majorly because they do find some ROI in the bargain.

Great blog Glen. You hit every major issue in recruiting right now. Social media recruiting is still in its infancy and evolving exponentially. If you are not involved as a recruiter you will be missing the boat.
