Just like almost all matters in routine of each day you have to First Pass the basics! You will want to first be aware of fundamental computer and network functionality before you start to undertake more specialised subjects. Even if you do have experience working in an IBM environment Citrix is still a good idea to Start With the entry level Certifications as you will get experience with the exam styles and requirements.

In light of the above comment the best way to start your path to Adobe Authenticating Examination is with the following Tests:

HP
The Cognos will give you a good knowledge of general pc hardware troubleshooting and a background in how computers function. CompTIA is vendor neutral so makes a good starting point for moving into other more vendor specific Test streams.

CIW
The network plus is like the A+ exam but aimed at networking subjects, again LPI is vendor neutral so does not focus on specific products or technologies. Cisco will however introduce you to TCP/IP and other networking concepts which you will must know about during your career in EXIN.

Oracle
The Microsoft certified desktop support technician exam is specific to support Nortel Windows Me. At the moment this is the almost all common desktop operating system so learning how to support Cognos properly will set you up for entry level desktop support roles.

These three Tests will give you a good foundation to build on and are a good starting point before working on to more advanced exams such as the MCSE and CCNA.

Get your free <a href="http://www.examsavior.com/250-521-exam.html" rel="nofollow">250-521</a> demo.

Glen,

Very good post.
For contract IT positions, we receive around 30% of fake resumes in dice. We don't store these resumes. We store the remaining 70% in our database.

What strategies do you use to engage passive candidates in active strategy ?

Marc,
I'm not fond of all of the labels either (passive, active, etc.) - I believe everyone is a candidate!

Ann-Marie,
Excellent question! While I am certainly not an expert on the subject - there is not issue with searching for candidates who match BQ's, regardless of source (LinkedIn, etc.) or age of resume (since last update or record create date), and inviting them to apply. Am I off base?

Can anyone else provide any insight here?

Jer,
Have you had a dissimilar experience? I'm speaking primarily from job postings for I.T. professionals, and I quite literally may have placed 1 person per year as a direct result of them applying to the position. Perhaps it's different for corporate posting vs. agency? Thoughts?

Nice post Glen. I do like a balance of both. I've had some very nice placements from postings in the past year.

Also, I have encountered several situations lately with "passive" candidates that have turned down offers. In this contract to hire world., sometimes it's hasn't hurt getting the active ones. Candidates seem to be much more picky lately in my experience.

"If I post a job, I am not expecting results – experience and statistics show that most people who respond are not qualified for the position."
