20 years ago I wondered why companies used recruiters and that was when we communicated by fax.

The same still applies companies do not have the time or the resources.

I think as recruiters we tend to forget that, the Sales Manager is busy selling and the HR managers job isn't just recruitment. Whereas we are doing it all day.

I think you make a very important, and sometimes overlooked, point here:
"With more human capital data becoming available every day via the Internet, social networks, and other information systems, sourcing actually becomes more challenging as the proverbial haystack increases in size." The sourcer's function actually becomes more valuable as the information available grows. The challenge is to filter out the noise (millions of false positives that may match your search criteria), and focus your search without eliminating potential candidates. While Boolean logic is relatively easy to learn; sourcing requires creativity, research and practice.

I also agree with what you are saying, but their is one part of the discussion missing... The fact that we are measuring the wrong things. We made a video to explain why we get in trouble in selection because the traditional hiring process of relying on resumes sets us up with the wrong admission tickets to the recruitment process. Checkout our video on the topic from our website.

I totally agree with you, I think during high demand of candidates makes recruiting harder because there is more supply to weed through to find the candidate. Clients become more interested in the perfect candidate, that is why company's should rely on good recruiters to find their talent vs themselves. We, recruiters need to rely on our strength which is finding the best candidate and that goes back to sourcing for the right resource.
